A taxi or Uber dashcam is a 2CH dashcam with front and a rear camera in the main unit that records the road and interior of the taxi simultaneously. The rear interior dashcam keeps an eye on the driver and passengers, while the front dashcam functions as a normal dashcam. Videos of both camera are stored separately on the SD card. Some taxi dashcams, like the AZDome GS65H, also have IR lights in the interior camera for great night visibility.
Practically since the beginning of taxi driving, security for taxi drivers has been a major issue. Surveillance was always a problem because camera systems needed to be installed in a time and money consuming way. Taxi dashcams are the easy, cheap and reliable solution to this problem. A dashcam in a taxi is not only a way to get proof of an incident in a taxi. It also works as a preventive measure to make a taxi or Uber more safe for both driver and passenger.
